Slander is the embodiment of our crumbling modern day society. His web of characters is amazing and complex but simple enough for us teenagers to follow the story line. FREAKING WOW!!!!! :)

what's the point of hollywood remake? dont americans have the intellectual capacity to read subtitles?
I'm sick of the US's habit of taking wonderful works from outside their borders and 'americanising' them - almost as if they simply cannot stand the fact that fucking brilliant art is produced outside Hollywoods confines.
Not one cent of my money will go to that capitalistic remake, and any true fan should keep their wallet closed as well. It's bad enough the television series was made, they had to put it out in the cinema... and ofcourse - the only truly worthy receipient of any finances from these projects receive NOTHING from any of it.
To hell with it, that's my opinion.

As an American, I agree with you completely, The Swedish trilogy is a masterpiece. Its like a painter trying to improve on the Mona Lisa!
Most in Hollywood exist in a fantasy world. Their remake will be a big flop. Do they really believe they can sell it overseas when the original is good as it is?

I agree that the originals are fantastic-I loved the books as well as the movies. I disagree with your remarks that these films should not be made in Hollywood. I am one of those dumb Americans you're speaking about and I read all 3 books AND watched the Swedish films AND read all the subtitles all by myself. Who cares if this movie is remade? Doesn't that just show what a great author this man was since people from all over the world want a chance to interpret his work? I don't really think the point is to improve the story-just to tell it again.

I watched one of the movies "dubbed" and one with the subtitles -- made no difference in the fact that these are great movies -- acting, directing, etc. I agree that there's no way a remake could make this better and it doesn't need to be remade "differently". The movies Psycho was remade......and what was the point of that....?!

I tried to watch TGWTDT and am normally happy to see movies with subtitles. However, on my TV, I just couldn't read them and had to abandon the movie. Although Hollywood will probably not do such a good job, I want to watch the movies without squinting at the screen.

I have read all 3 books and my husband and I have watched all 3 movies. I loved both and thought the movies were very true to the books in all the areas that really mattered. I can't tell you how many times I've said it makes me so very sad that this wonderful and brilliant writer, Stieg Larsson died before knowing how many people loved his work. I am a 63 year old grandmother who lives in the mid-western US, my husband and I are both retired. We both hope that Eva will be allowed to complete the 4th book as we can't bear to say goodbye to Lisbeth and Mikael. As far as Hollywood doing a remake of the movies, they should just forget that, no one can ever compare to Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqvist portrayals of Lisbeth & Mikael. I don't know Sweden's equivalent of the Oscars, but they certainly should win that award.

I wrote this letter to Stieg Larsson before i learned of his death.
Dear Stieg Larsson,
I went to college for two years and the best thing i got out of it was your book. I bought the book 'The Girl Who Played With Fire' for 6 dollars in the book store at my college. Once i bought it i never put it down. On my 2 hour bus ride to and from school the only safety i felt was with Lisabeth Salander. I'm not much for reading i'd rather write, but your book captivated me. I bought the third book ' The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest' and i'm now waiting to buy the first one. I just wanted to write you this to tell you that Lisabest Salander and You both have changed my life. I am stronger as a woman now than i have ever been. You are (were) an amazing artist,writer,and creator. I wanted you to know that the witty, smart, strong girl that you masterfully created like a god is a part of my everyday life and now that girl is me.

Being an American myself, I can't agree more. It's too bad movies in our country have been gravitating away from stories and characters and towards action and special effects. That said, the English translation of these books are not very well written. Though they may capture the story, they are poor. Don't get me wrong, in NO WAY is that a reflection of Stieg or his work, merely the quality of translations. Also, the movies, as they stand now, are fantastic... period.

Have you checked out this new guy claiming to be the English Stieg Larrson, S.G.Norris, he's obviously jumping on the band wagon but from what I've read it looks good. Bringing the political thriller to Northern England. Well I've bought it anyway, will post on here what I think

Also, the books are many and have been around some time but have you read Swedens other terrific author Henning Mankell who writes the Kurt Wallander books ? He is an interesting character so try to start with the earliest book you can as the threads run through the books.

No one loved this series more that I did. Plus, the Green Bay Packers won the Super Bowl.
I looked up every address as the books unfolded and plead with Swedes to invite me to visit the TRAIL.
Good Grief, Few people ever noticed the water, the trains, the super highways, the Cities until Mr Larrsen wrote. What a country!!!!

I visited Sweden May, 2010 and found it to be a wonderful country! Unfortunately, I was introduced to Larsson's Trilogy AFTER returning home to Florida... I immediately read all 3 books in series....and saw all 3 Swedish movies. What a tradegy for the world to lose such a talented writer. It will be difficult to wait until, hopefully, his last book is published by his companion. I was so impressed by Mr. Larssons writing, I cannot wait to return to his country and follow the Larsson Trail personally. I agree with other posts here that it would be rediculous for Hollywood to do a remake of the movies because they will do a poor job and not follow the storyline. The Swedish movies were excellent!!!!!
