Just finished first book, which I loved and have started 2nd book, when realized they are all out in cinemas now. I will wait for English version just so I can finish all the books before I see the movie, but I must admit Natalie Portman would make a great Lisbeth Salander.

The second movie will be out in October on Amazon. I have pre-purchased it myself. The third has not been released to the US yet. I am not going to be watching the US movies because they will never be as good as the Swedish.

ok, i know that noomi raplace was fab as the swedish version of lisbeth salander but i think jem, the singer would be fabulous as the american version. little old but doesn't look it. check her out on her website

Great book, fantastic plot, characters, all woven together neatly. Spoiled a little by the left-wing undertones, but will definitely read all 3.

Eva Gabrielsson - I'm so sorry you didn't get to share in the best part of Stieg's fortune. If you do have a 4th book in the sequel up your sleeve, then make sure you secure all the rights that go with it.
I'm sure as Stieg's confidante you endured all the novels' intricasies, not the mention the hostilities aimed against you both by right wing fascists.

Wow. So. The first was a little slow going for about the first chapter or two -- then it took off like a rocket leaving me clutching and holding my breath... UNTIL (back to back) I just put down book 2. WoooEEEE. These books were so bloody good not only did I shluff off work for 2 extra days, rearranging all other commitments and even postponing bathroom and nourishment in many cases! Now I merely sit here dejected and royally pissed off I did not have the good sense to have book 3 sitting at a fast idle nearby, waiting for me nearby!! DAMN IT!!

EXACTLY! The first chapter or two was what took me so long to finally give in and read the books. Finally......thanks to some VERY GOOD FRIENDS I threw up my hands and said "OK already!" And am I glad I did. I devoured them!!! I stayed up late. I came home from work early. They consumed my every thought! I haven't read the third one yet simply because I can't stand the thought of no more Lisbeth or Mikael....so I keep it near me at all times so I can look at and caress until I give in and read it. What a dilemma right? It's been a long long time since I've been so completely taken over by a book. God love you Stieg Larsson!!!!! I hope his girlfriend eventually finds a way to publish what Stieg left behind.

Just finished reading the second book, the girl who played with fire and also watched the movie of the first book. It is just amazing. I can confidently say that it has been quite a while since i read a book that left me this captivated, glued and yearning. For those who think it is OTT and tedious, i believe the concept of what a good book should be is probably lost to them.
Can't wait to read the theird one and possibly the supposed fourth one.
Worth every penny and i would recommend it to any body. Good work.

I've just finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and am a little perplexed on what all the fuss is about. The first half of the book was an over-elaborate definition of characters, to the point of becoming tedious. Then the suspense of the main plot is hastily lifted within the scope of 50 pages. The remaining 100+ pages seem to be very self indulgent on the author's part. Once again the author uses the guise of fiction as an unrestrained licence to unleash his own political convictions in a sub-plot which seems to have had it's own making, and was then clumsy tied to the main plot of the book. The characters are intriguing, and the suspence of the main plot is definately a page turner.. but in terms of pace and structure this book is all over the map.

Gee the 50 million other folks who like this must be crazy!
And who cares if the author is self indulgent. Is that not what we pay for and expect in a good book? ..for the author to use his life experiences and beliefs to weave an exciting and captivating tale. Should he have had written about Sushi? or pickled herring? Of course not!!!! Why wouldn't you write about what you know or believe?
I think its the attention to detail that makes this book what it is... a good suspenseful story with interesting characters and a twisted plot.

Well, Richard, apparently we are in the minority. But I'm with you on the book. Except you know more about it than I do, because I thought it was such a yawner that I abandoned it 80 pages in, even though I started it three or four times.
Just the the first two films, and they're good. But the book cured my insomnia.
