Before his career as a writer, Stieg Larsson was mostly known for his struggle against racism and right-wing extremism. Starting in the late 1970's, he combined his work as a graphic designer with holding lectures on right-wing extremism for Scotland Yard. During the following years he became an expert on the subject and held many lectures as well as writing many novels on the subject. In 1995, when 8 people were killed by neo-Nazis in Sweden, he was the main force behind the founding of the Expo-foundation, a group intended on exposing neo-Nazi activity in Sweden. From 1999 onwards he was appointed chief editor of the magazine Expo.

During the last 15 years of his life, he and his life companion Eva Gabrielsson lived under constant threat from right-wing violence.

The trilogy

Millennium trilogy

Stieg Larsson had always been interested in detective novels, and he was very familiar the works of Elizabeth George and Minette Walters. With all the attention to detail, it is disappointing that the firearm information is incorrect. Colt has never made a "Colt .45 magnum" nor a 9mm 1911 model. The descriptions of "hunting ammunition" and ""hollow body bullets" are incorrect as well. Blatant and irritating errors in an otherwise good piece of work. What other rese

Thank you for pointing these errors out. You are correct.

Wow Chris and Jayne, are you the elitist group that Chris speaks of and Jayne feels gives her the right to pigeon hole people. Certainly sounds like it. In the US all not a few are entitled to and given an education and encouraged to and supported to go on to higher educational levels if that is their choice. If the education here is so substandard why do so many countries in Europe and Asia provide funds for thier students to study here graduate and postgraduate work here. Also, the Communist Party is a recognized political party in this country as well. All governments are a fusion of ideas that have crossed the centuries. In fact Chris our healthcare system as it exists now has embraced many socialistic policies, some of which have worked some of which have not. Every country and government has it;s faults and mistakes, scandals and successes. Perhaps your area of study about the US should include more than 'facts' and preconceived judgements given in tabloids. (How does that sit with you.) Not too well I'll bet. Jayne, in using the word Redneck it's obvious you prefer to lump people into catagories Using words that can be derogatory reinforces the impression that you like to place yourself abovve others. Americans may still be confused about the two isms you mentioned but in reality both devolved in recent history into something barely resembling the original ideologies. Negative experiences for many citizens US and otherwise. It is so tedious to hear about the ignorant, undereducated, snobby, self serving, hedonistic Americans who are so clueless about other cultures and countries. There are as many types of cultures representedin NYC citizen's alone as exist in the world. We are not as naiive as many seemed to believe. Nor as intolerant. Propaganda by the way is hardly an American invention. It too has spanned the centuries and millenia in fact. Socialism is not necessarilly a synonym for Communism so are you even talking about the same thing/

Never a crime novel fan (and chary of anything remotely violent), I still wanted to see what the fuss was about. Utterly brilliant, completely additive, masterfully done. Breaks my heart that Larsson never knew how beloved he would become both as a force of goodness and literary accomplishment. The Millennium series, Swedish version, is a masterpiece in its own right, with stunning performances by all actors.

I just finished the Trilogy. It. Was. AMAZING. I read all the books in four days. I don't know how to describe how much I love this series. I really hope that Stieg's family and wife just end the legal dispute already. I want to read what else he had planned for the series. The man was a genius! I'm sure he had some new plots that would blow us right out of the water. I'm so sad I'm done with the books, but the ending was great. Loved. It.

I have just finished reading THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE. The fight scene was one of the best written pieces if literature I've ever read. I have read a lot and have even written seceral books myself. If only I could write like that maybe someday I could make a living of it. I can't wait to start reading THE GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNET'S NEST. Got it today.

I wonder about Larsson's personal involvement in the communist party yet his aversion to neo-naziis. I guess I am uneducated about the communist party as being an American, there is nothing positive said about it.

- Cathy, 12 April 2012

A lot of Americans seem to get confused on

The topic of communism and Nazism as the

education about them seems poor but

They are exact opposites of each other,

In Nazism (right wing) one group of people are superior

To others and the countries resources are used

To benefit that specific group only, whereas in

Communism (left wing) everyone is equal and resources

Are shared according to need. This is where the

Terms right and left wing come from, meaning policies

Leaning right (conservative) or left (socialist). Sadly in the USA

There seems to be so much propaganda that people

Don't really understand, eg the health care reforms where

Socialised health care like we have in the uk was demonised

By out right lying and myths about non existent "death panels" etc by right wing Parties opposed to reform. Anyway apologies for the long answer

And hope it helped explain a bit.

- Chris, 25 April 2012

There's no need trying to simplify basic left and right thinking to a bunch of red necks, but I admire you for trying.

- jayne, 1 May 2012

'communism'- basically what Obama is trying to do to the U.S....btw we are not 'a bunch of red necks' and he will not succeed.
