Boxed set edition of the Millennium Trilogy, the first volume of which, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, has been adapted as a major Hollywood film starring Daniel Craig to be released on the 26th December.
A superb writer and a tragedy that there will be no more books from him. Having read the precis of his life above, I can understand where the passion and strength comes from. It takes great courage to make a stand against a perceived evil. A brave man and his death is a loss to the world as one of the good guys trying to counter the bad guys.

How sure are we that Stieg Larssen died from natural causes?
It seems strange that he died just before publication of very controversial (are they biographical) books.

I just looked at YouTube to try and find the movie. It said you can watch it on tinyurl.com. Don't know if there are English sub-titles or not.

absolutley hooked. just boughthe thrid one in Arlanda..spent the whole flight reading.. fascinating stuff- very intresting at different levels- as a detective genre, a commentry on viloence towards women, insights into journalsm, Lisbeth makes us relook at our bias towards children who dont confirm'..
ffor someone living in swede for last to yars also lovely insights into the swedish way of life, its workings and for me some relation to areas mentione there.
also lovely dovetailig of real life example, digs at Percy Barnevik, corporate big wigs, double standard..
as I said for me.. multifaceted, ;uti layered, lots of images at diffrent levels.. a lovely read overall

Where can I find the movie?????? I am absolutely in love with the characters in these books. I didn't even know there was a movie!!

The movie was just shown at the Hamptons Int. Film Festival, Swedish with Eng. titles. Director says it should have a winter 2010 release. The other 2 movies are also already done, though not with the same director, who is Danish

I think the books are stunning. I have just read the first one and am reading the second one, just started. They are a searing, high class statement that work on many levels: sophisticated and complex thriller and yet to me, they ae a powerful moral tale about power, sanity and the abuse of position. They are pro-sex yet show the danger. really terrific. Amongst the best I have ever read. Best wishes from London, England.

I just read the 2nd book today which was quite revieling about Sallys life.
Am currently watching the first movie again on DVD.
In my opinion, the first movie is true to the original story (with few understandable exeptions) which is a plus, ofcourse. Also, it is a welcome relief from american movies to see "regular/ordinandy" actors playing the roles (no botox or plastic surgeries). The best part is that the main actors are very credible.
Downsides are mostly the shortening of the story.
How do you make a 152 min movie from an over 500 pages script? You need to compromise. If you dont you have a masterpiece.

My friend & I actually commented on how "regular" the characters looked. They were not superstars, except, of course, for their ability to portray the characters so magnificently.
