Movie Casting

What do you think of the casting? Is Michael Nyqvist and Noomi Norén perfect for the main characters, Mikael Blomkvist and Lisbeth Salander?

Posted by Editor i Sweden , 17 November 2008

That girl is so not sally. She is totally Erika. Bad casting.

Posted by Sarah , 21 May 2008

That Noomi looks nothing like Salander. She is more Erika Berger.. Not a good Cast. Salander is much smaller in every way.

Posted by Joy , 21 May 2008

it will flop. sorry. michael looks nothing like mikael, and i agree with the other commentator that noomi looks more like erika than lisbeth.

i really don´t understand why this film needs to be made. except for money, of course.

not very stieg larssonian, if you ask me.

r.i.p.

Posted by norway , 28 May 2008

I really agree with the other ones. Michael is not a bit Mikel at all & Lisbeth Salander is not so tall.

Posted by HannoveranianGirl , 1 June 2008

soory for the actress, but she get nothing compare with Lisbeth... I imagine her skinniest, more dirty and particular than her. Lisbeth is weird, beautiful but not this way

Posted by tania , 4 June 2008

I think Michael is a good cast for Mikael, but he looks like a badguy in this photo, and thats not how I picture Mikael at all. Naomi is to tall to be Lisbeth, and her face is not quirky enough. But however, makeupartist will probably change her looks dramatically. cant wait for this film!

Posted by nosignature , 11 June 2008

In my head Blomkvist looks like Stieg Larssons handsome brother, not like this.

Posted by Sas , 22 June 2008

it's a good, a really good thing: it won't be an american blockbuster ! maybe these movies will be great and will translate all the energy and athmosphere which make Millenium so peculiar... Noomi Rapace looks like Lisbeth and she would make Lisbeth alive if she plays well even if I imagine Lisbeth skinnier ^^

Posted by Marie , 26 June 2008

Noomi and Michael is bad casting indeed. I think Lena Endre is perfect for Erica Berger though. But really disappointed over Blomqvists actor...

Posted by , 28 June 2008

I googlized Noomi Rapace and Michael Nykvist to find more about them, especially photographs. Of course they are not exactly like we imagined them for a very simple reason: as we read the volumes, we create them in our own minds. Are they good actors? These roles will be the roles of their career and I am happy for them. And someone else noted here, we have to applause the fact that the film rights for these books, sure to sell by millions across the world, were not sold to american producers. I hope that other successfull books written and published in large and small countries around the world will be adapted for screen by local producers and played by local actors. Wouldn't it be great?

Posted by QuebecReader , 4 July 2008

I think that casting Michael Nyqvist could potentially be a good thing. He doesn´t really look like Mikael Blomkvist, but he has the same..."aura", the same vibe or something. This Noomi girl- I don´t know anything about her, but she looks the part, as long as they make her less attractive (but in a movie-version we might have to live with the fact that she has to be beautiful)

Posted by Maria, 27 , 6 July 2008

I think they would be perfect both micael and Noomi, if they only had been 10 year younger....

Posted by Innocentia , 9 July 2008

Mikael Nyqvist is one of Swedens most famous actors and I think he's going to do a great job. But Noomi doesn't look a bit like Lisbeth! I haven't heard much about her earlier, though I'm from Sweden. I've red all 3 books and they are GREAT!

Posted by , 14 July 2008

Swedish characters are BLOND!!!(for the rest of the world anyway).Get a real Aspie to play Lisbeth-Aspies are FANTASTIC PERFORMERS.Their whole life is one performance for neuro-typical people.....THEY ARE NOT selfconscience as they live in the 3rd person anyway.

Posted by Marlene- RSA , 15 July 2008

I'm looking forward to this and think the cast suits well but for one minor thing: Noomi looks a little bit older than I would have imagined Lisbeth to be.

Though I have faith in the directors choice.

Let's SEE the movie before we start critizising, yes? :)

I'm thankful they actually are making this film in the first place.

Cheers!

What?

Sorry but Noomi Rapace doesnt look like what Stieg Larsson has described in his books.

She is supposed to be short, to have a scary look with rings, tatoos, etc...

In the picture in this page she is way too nice looking.

I'm too disappointed. I wont go watch the movie when it goes out...

Posted by Eric from Montreal, Quebec, Canada , 25 July 2008

Who will play Armanskij and Niedermann??

Posted by aloalo , 4 August 2008

Mikael Persbrandt would have been the perfect Mikael, as he's supposed to be a man with a sexual charisma as well as a good journalist, and and the make up artits should do well to make Noomi look like Lisbeth! Lisbeth should not look this normal and pretty, she should look like a special person.

Posted by wellwell , 10 August 2008

Gee, Michael Nyqvist in a larger Swedish film, who would have thought? What's next, Johnny Depp appearing in a movie by Tim Burton? Disney making DTV sequels? *rolling eyes*

For some reason Nyqvist gets cast in every single larger movie produced in Sweden these days. He's completely wrong for the part of Blomkvist, and quite frankly I'm tired of seeing him all the time. I wish they would have gone with a lesser known actor who fits the role better. As for Rapace, I haven't seen her in anything so I can't really comment. Looks can be changed with makeup, aside from height, but rather a too tall actress who can play the part than a short enough one who isn't good enough.

Still, the casting of Nyqvist bores me and makes me a lot less interested in seeing this film. If they're so low on creativity that they cast him, I can't imagine that they would create any wonders with the rest of the production.

Posted by Svala , 11 August 2008

I would have liked to see Stellan Skarsgaard as Mikael! And my idea of Lisbeth is a trasher girl than this actress! A bit disappointed, but let's wait and see. BTW I am about to finish volume 1...

Posted by Olivier D , 9 September 2008

Good casting for Mikael and Erika, but Lisbeth must have been played by Cristina Ricci !

On the cover of the french edition of the novel (Actes Sud) they used an illustration of "Wednesday the Destroyer"(referring to Wednesday of the Addams Family, played by Ricci). She fits perfectly, I've read the trilogy thinking of her as Lisbeth!

Posted by JLe , 25 September 2008

Lisbeth should have been played by Lo Kauppi. She looks like Lisbeth. Not so tall and has that special energy/intesity.

Posted by KM , 2 October 2008

I think Peter Haber will do a terrific job as Henrik Vanger. Class actor.

Posted by fatty , 3 October 2008

there is a casting error here! Salander isn't supposed to be this nice.

Posted by , 21 October 2008

YAY!!!! this is going to be AMAZING!!!! hihihi!!! i loved the books!! its true that Noomi Norén isnt exactly what we would expect when we think about Lisbeth, but shes not in character yet, we have to give them time and wait till the movie is out, thats when she will be fully tattoed and pierced!

Posted by Nazaré, Montreal,Canada , 9 November 2008

Um Lisbeth looks a bit too old than she is in the book! I think Mikael looks great

Posted by , 10 November 2008

Out of respect for Stieg Larsson the casting people might have actually read the books a bit more carefully... sorry but your choice of actors for the two main characters made me wonder... I am French and do not know the actors in questions, so I googled a bit out of curiosity, the comments on this page tickled my curiosity too. Frankly I totally agree with the comments that the actors are inappropriate, with exception of the "Erika" character who is totally spot on, it seems to me. Noomi Nóren looks much too pretty much too tall, and sorry, but I would be surprised if Noomi has been confused for a 14 year old by strangers in a very long time... it will take a hell of a make up artist to make her look like Stieg´s Lisbeth. But I guess his Lisbeth is probably not pretty enough to sell cinema tickets...As to Mr Nyqvist, he looks too old for the role. The character turns 45 during book 2, a fit 45 year old would look considerably younger and though undoubtedly an attractive man, his attraction is not the type of attraction described very clearly by the author, just read book 2 again, somewhere at the beginning there is a brilliant portrait of him. Conclusion the goal, sadly, is to turn these brilliant books to cash. Ask yourselves: what would Stieg Larsson think of this, or is he totally irrelevant because he is dead?I have never until now written anything on the net, but I am so impressed by the talent and the social engagement of this author that I just had to say : try at least, out of respect, not to mess up the rest of the film!

Posted by Francoise , 12 November 2008

dear francoise , i truly agree to your opinion , in being an professional in film business i asked and wrote to the publisher for the filmrights to produce an own series because when i heard of the yellowbird project and that paramount is interested in making a typical hollywood movie of .... i thought about being it better in having a series about 20 parts of 52 minutes for tv refferring to the hundreds of scenes and pages i read in all three parts of the trilogy , and i agree that there must be another cast , but i hope that yellowbird will answer soon to my request in preparing an own version of what i was banned in the last two weeks .....kind regards ... maurice, strasbourg

Posted by m.philander, strasbourg , 13 November 2008

I think it works with Michael Nyqvist, such an intense yet everyday actor. I'm reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and can see him in the role now. Lisbeth was always going to be difficult. Not as difficult perhaps as Peter Hoeg's Smilla Jasperson, still my favourite of all time.

Posted by Elizabeth , 17 November 2008

I almost finished the first book and loved it so much that I can't await to start the second one.

And I was so excited when I heard that a movie is about to come, but now that I've seen the casting I am quite disapointed.

I really like Michael Nyqvist. He is a great actor, but he is not what even an ounce of what I imagined of Mikael Blomkvist. In my eyes he is too old. I imagined Mikael as somebody who looks much younger as he is.

As I am german, I don't know many swedish actors, but if I had to choose among Hollywood-Actors I would choose somebody like Edward Norton or David Duchovny. It's not that they are my ideal Mikael, but they are a kind of men who look younger as they are. Futhermore I imagined Mikael much more attractive.

Regarding Lisbeth I can't they anything. Noomi Norén is even more out of place than Michael Nyqvist.

Noomi looks healthy, less anorexic, too old as well, too beautiful and some kind of boring.

I am surprised how they changed her appearance for the movie, but I can't imagine that she will ever become Lisbeth. I imagined a girl like the young Winona Ryder and how she looked in "Girl, interrupted".

I am surprised if this film will ever be able to persuade me.

Posted by Vanessa-Nina, Germany , 1 December 2008

I think Noomi is the perfect Lisbeth Salander!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Linda in Hannover/Germany , 12 december 2008

I most agree to most people here. Tanya "I imagine her skinniest, more dirty and particular than her. Lisbeth is weird, beautiful but not this way"

so true

Noomi loooks nothing like "the weird" girl Stieg desrcribed. But properly the casting crew has lag of imagination as usual in Scandinavian filmmaking.

This movie going to be pathetic cause the Director suck.

Posted by Søren Jensen in Denmark , 18 december 2008

I go very much d´accord with the casting. You can never never find the 100 percent-type for a role. There are always people who like to complain and argue. Wait, open your mind and enjoy the movie. Then you can critizise. Ok, I don´t believe that the actress is 150 cm tall and the actor is not the most handsome one but the realisation is important and the quality of the acting. So give it a chance! :o)

Posted by das_bambi in Berlin , 22 december 2008

Dear all, It is not easy trying to satisfy millions of readers all over the world. We all have different views of how the characters look. Since I am a wede I do hope the movie will have a success and also the actors. I personally adore Michael Nykvist but I dont know the Lisabeth Salander girl. I have allways had in my head the aura of the frensh actress who made NIKITA. So vonurable but still so strong.

Its so sad that I wont be reading more books of STIEG LARSSON...its so hard to come across pageturners like this. You just enter this LARSSON world and its so sad when you have to leave it.

By the way I would also likes to have seen these books as a series on tv. Would have worked better I think.

Posted by bubbo in barcelona , 26 december 2008

I am very happy they made a sweedish movie with sweedish actors. I was afraid that Listbeth could have been played by Angelina Jolie, lide Lara Croft. And she is more than that. I hope Noomi will do her best. I loved the 2 books, and the second is better than the first.

Posted by Vera in Sao Paulo - Brazil , 24 februari 2009

In the film it is remarkable how Noomi Rapace manages to create her own version of Lisbeth Salander and still come across as the Lisbeth Salander in the books . And also how well the film script follows the outlines of the book.

I´m enormously greatful that Hollowood didn´t manage to get hold of the rights. The film remains, true to the ethos of the books....Nordic Noir.

Of course, like any filmversion of a brick size bestseller...it has it´s flaws. But I will not go into details about that. I enjoyed the film tremendously!

Posted by wadingcreek in Norrkoping - Sweden , 22 mars 2009

I think people should be patient, the film is great!the Lisbeth casting is super, and I sat petrified for almost three houres, so did the other houndreds of people in the cinema. GREAT acting and casting!Lisbeth is as dark and strong as she should be.I recommend it!

Posted by nas in Oslo,Norway , 13 april 2009

Stieg Larsson was extremely specific about Lisbeth Salanders height/body type/looks on countless occasions throughout the books. It is a very important part of her character that adds a huge amount to the story-line.

What a crying shame this has been almost completely ignored by casting the comparatively gigantic and aging Noomi Rapace in her role for the movie. Would Stieg really have agreed to such a fundamental overhaul of such a main character?

I certainly am not impressed.

Bad Job

Posted by Alexis Cregan in St Albans, UK , 15 april 2009

I agree with the last comments-Lisbeth is supposed to look like a mid-teenager even tho we know she is older. The actress playing her looks the wrong side of 30 - sorry dear!

Posted by Mike Tunnicliffe in Stoke,UK , 16 maj 2009

I have just seen the film, and believe me , the casting is absolutely perfect, could not be better. It is actually a brilliant film.

Posted by luzzz in paris , 17 maj 2009

Exactly, the casting was good. The actress was very well able to convey the akwardness of the character. Her size etc is not important.

Posted by Lu in Brussel , 6 juni 2009

...i guess i'm one of the "newest" fans of the trilogie (read all 3 books in 4 days)...anyway,i looked over the cast and completely agree with most of the people here, that the 2 actors are not such a "happy" choice for this...but the producers want and have to make money, and choose the "secure" way, a known-face (this actor)..etc.so everything has to adapt somehow..i'm a make-up artist for 25 years in films and know what is possible creating and changing a character... if the actress is good, she can make people forget "their own lisbeth", if she lost weight for the movie, and if they filmed her in a special way,she can appear shorter etc...i can imagine, they did work with these "tools"...but when i was reading i always imagine juliette lewis, with short black hair etc..and that certain look on her face!..perfect!..that woul be "my" lisbeth...the guy is harder, i saw this swedish actor recently on german tv in a movie,i think he is good and convincing ...but for not for "kalle fuckin bloomquist" he looks rather "souther-european" (maybe they died his hair blondish, different cut, made it a little longer, and use a filter to make him look smoother)....that would be a real challenge for make-up artists....we will see!....unfortunatly i can't think of an actor which would fit my imagination right now....except a young rutger hauer....but that is out of question...great guy,by the way...i read, that tarantino and pitt have bought the rights of the book for the u.s....everybody can imagine what these two guys are gonna make out of this...pitt>bloomquist??? "babyface"...never ever, for me!..i wanted to share my opinion and hope that the film comes out good... anyway nobody can change it at this point!...i'm gonna watch it just out of curiosity...

Posted by susa in Cologne , 16 juni 2009

Like aloalo asked, I wonder who will play Niedermann. Probably not very easy to find a bodybuilder able to be convincingly frightening and somehow dumb. Does anyone know if the author drew inspiration from someone in particular?

Posted by Artur in Paris , 24 juni 2009

I think Noomi Rapace totally ROCKS as Lisbeth. She's awkward and attractive at the same time. She may be taller than her literary counterpart, but her body language, her physique and her delivery are perfect. I'm totally crushing after her and I'm an hetero girl, so go figure.

Posted by Adridere , 1 juli 2009

Michael Nyqvist as Blomkvist? So, so.

It's interesting, Blomkvist is a bon-vivant, but Nyqvist portrays him with a level of tenderness that is not in the books. In the movie, she's the tough guy, the Dirty Harry, and he's the one bringing out the vulnerability. Truth is, I don't like Blomkvist in the books. I find his promiscuity annoying (not because of the sex, but because he really does not care about the emotional dimensions of his lovers, even though he's supposed to be all for justice. This one is hard to explain, but I don't think he behaves with integrity towards women, which makes him a do-gooder hypocrite), and I find his leaps of logic too convenient to be believable. So nothing wrong with poor Nyqvist, I just don't like his character.

Noomi Rapace on the other hand, is made of win. Sexy, weird, strange, her facial gestures, her lack of social manners, the way she stoops, the way she smokes, her anger and her self contained energy, I found all of that deeply alluring. She's the movie, period. I hope that the other two movies give her more screen time than the books and luckily, they will spare us again from Blomkvist's awesome prowess with the ladies. (The guy is kryptonite for women's panties, apparently)

Posted by Adridere in Here and Back Again , 1 juli 2009

Sorry folks, but BAD CAST!!!

Neither Blomkvist nor Lisbeth got the "looks" as described in the book....

Lisbeths height, anorexic look, etc. are of great importance for the whole character!

A good Lisbeth is sure hard to find but it´s not impossible....

Could´ve done better....

Mikael Persbrandt would have been a better Mikael Blomkvist, if not... me! ;o)

And I wonder who´ll play Niedermann, too?

Dolph Lundgrens big comeback??? *rofl*

Posted by Fury in Cologne, Germany , 9 juli 2009

....when i read the books i visualised juliette lewis as lisbeth, and a young rutger hauer as michael....i'm gonna watch the movie anyway...as a make-up artist for 25 years i know about the "magic of make-up"...let's hope, that the performance will be good.

Posted by susa in Cologne , 10 juli 2009

..p.s....i heard, that pitt and tarantino bought the rights for the US!....so everybody can imagine what these guys are gonna make out of it! ;-/

Posted by susa in Cologne , 10 juli 2009

I wanted tom hanks to play blomkvist, and megan fox to play lisbeth, but whatever.

Im not gonna watch the movie, and thats my final decision, cuz everytime i read a book then go watch its movie, i leave the theatre greatly disappointed.

Posted by anoud al muhairi in dubai, uae , 21 juli 2009

I thought the cast looked too old. Mikael is supposed to be what, 45 at most? And it does state repeatedly throughout the books that he's rather attractive. I thought Erika looked too old too. Salander, on the other hand, looked alright to me.

Posted by dana burton in uk , 28 juli 2009

I think the french actress Élodie Bouchez would be a great Lisbeth.

Posted by David C. in Haleiwa HI , 24 september 2009

Ellen Page could nail Lisbeth both physically and emotionally. She is around the same age and she can play strong/ socially awkward. Simular to a young Jodie Foster.

Posted by Phil P in Hamilton Canada , 22 november 2009

A younger Winona Ryder would be the perfect Salander ... she is the one I had in my mind while I was reading the books ...

Posted by Bigtime Larsson fan in Nicosia , 12 december 2009

Finally watched both movies in one go - I couldn't really bring myself to see the movies after having devoured the entire trilogy. I was afraid to be disappointed, as it usually happens when books are translated into movies... and indeed so!

Michael Nyqvist as Blomqvist was totally out of character in the first Millennium movie: I loved his performance in "Together" and "Suddenly", but here his honest, good-man face didn't work at all. He came across as a weak victim, with that puppy-eye look and defeated expression. How come in the first movie he was the one falling in love with Salander, when in the first book instead it was the other way round???

But I liked him much better in the second movie, where he became the paranoid, ruthless journalist that Larsoon depicts in the his trilogy.

Age-wise Nyqvist worked fine for me. A bit out of shape, but even Monica Figuerola in book 3 told Blomqvist that he could use some work-out as he was putting on some weight...

Still, I wouldn't kick Nyqvist out of bed for eating crackers ;)

Rapace as Salander instead worked pretty well for me; maybe a tad older than the teen-ager looking Lisbeth from the book, but still a very powerful and effective performance. Thank God in the movie they didn't give her the boob job, as it happens in book 2 - I like her androgynous body like that :)

Posted by Ishmael69 in Italy , 20 december 2009

I totally agree that it should have been Lo Kauppi playing Salander!!! I don't know if she ever went to a casting for the film, or if anyone ever concidered her, but I think that was a huuuge mistake! Lo Kauppi is so much more intense in every way. I once starred as an extra in a movie she was in, so I've seen her unbeliavable power take after take after take. I know for a fact she would not have had any problems whatsoever with the various sex scenes either. She is just as natural and open-minded as one can be. Like Lisbeth. No doubt she would have made a better Salander. Nevertheless I think Rapace is doing a perfectly fine job trying.

I am now hoping for an English version of the movie (since the Swedish one hasn't got subtitles (!)) and that the new production will seriously concider offering the part to the astonishing Lo Kauppi. Those of you who don't know Kauppi; look her up and you will be amazed.

Deadline reports that the filmmaker has tested a number of actresses this past week, and will hold another test today, which is more than just a girl, a script, and recapping a few lines. Daniel Craig will be on-hand to read with the women, and they will have to perform with "full hair, makeup, wardrobe, and piercings treatment, which wasn't done in the earlier tests." Obviously, doing this will make sure the girl will not only have the acting chops, but will have chemistry with Mr. 007 and look comfortable enough in the ensemble that it won't be a 2-hour "nice girl plays dress-up" on the big screen.

There's no definitive word of who is in the running, but Deadline says Page, Mia Wasikowska, Emily Browning, Sarah Snook, Rooney Mara, Sophie Lowe, and now Lea Seydoux -- a French actress -- may still be in the running, while Fish Tank's Katie Jarvis also adds herself into the mix.

Rooney Mara Gets Coveted Lisbeth Role In 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo'

UPDATE: Sony Pictures Entertainment has issued a press release on Mara. I've included it after Deadline's story break.

EXCLUSIVE: Ending one of the most drawn out and closely watched casting searches for an actress in years, Sony Pictures Entertainment and director David Fincher have chosen Rooney Mara to play Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, the film that begins shooting this fall in Sweden, with Daniel Craig starring. The film will be released December 21, 2011. Rooney was considered Fincher's first choice in the process: the director had just helmed her in The Social Network. Closing a deal will amount to a formality, because Mara essentially agreed to terms when she and other young actresses signed on to tests that Fincher and producer Scott Rudin have conducted over the past several weeks. Her deal includes an option for two sequels that will cover The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest, the second and third books in the Millennium Trilogy by the late author Stieg Larsson. The books continue the same murder conspiracy storyline.

Deadline revealed that Craig was signed a deal with two options weeks ago to play Mikael Blomkvist, the investigative journalist and part owner of the magazine Millennium, and Deadline also broke the story that Robin Wright was in talks to play Erika Berger, his occasional bed partner and the publisher of Millennium. Stellan Skarsgard was also reportedly in talks to play Martin Vanger, who joins the magazine's board.

The search for Salander has been the role that really captured the public fancy. Slight of frame and short, Salander is a brilliant but troubled computer hacker who helps Blomkvist unravel a decades-long murder mystery. The storyline is as dark as the subject matter that Fincher tackled in Seven, and subsequent books establish Salander as far more than Blomkvist's sidekick (and occasional lover). While established actresses have been named as being in contention for the role -- Natalie Portman (who tried to buy the books early on), Ellen Page (who filmed her own test), Carey Mulligan and most recently Scarlett Johansson -- Fincher has focused his testing process on discovering an actress who fits Salander physically and in age proximity, which is early 20s. Mara was among a group of young actresses that included Alice In Wonderland star Mia Wasikowska, Sucker Punch's Emily Browning (even though neither actress signed test deals), Fish Tank's Katie Jarvis. Mara tested along with Sophie Lowe, Sarah Snook and French actress Lea Seydoux.

Mara is a strong match: she is the right age and looks like Salander. She also had the advantage of working with Fincher and Rudin on The Social Network. The sister of Brokeback Mountain's Kate Mara and the great granddaughter of New York Giants football team founder Wellington Mara and Pittsburgh Steelers founder Art Rooney, Mara was most recently seen in the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. Mara is repped by WME.

I'm surprised at how many people are critical of the casting of Noomi Rapace. I think she is perfect...of course she isn't the character that you build in your mimd when you are reading the books, but who is? Just watched The Girl Who Played with Fire yesterday, and I thought it was very good, although I wonder why they seem to have taken away all her anger.

Posted by Setaian in Sydney, Australia , 21 september 2010

Noomi is perfect !!- although I saw the movie first and then read the books, so in my mind - she was IT. I don't get Mikael on the other hand - he is supposed to "radiate sexual energy" and so hot that all these women can't resist him - He doesn't do it for me - sorry! I was hoping that Hollywood wouldn't get to it - What a sell-out! :'( Please tell me I can look forward to the next 2 being made in Sweden - AS THEY SHOULD BE!

Posted by Justiniano in Manila , 24 June 2011

I had seen the ads for the U.S. version of TGWTDT before reading the book it was based on, so it was impossible for me NOT to see Daniel Craig as Blomkvist. I really didn't picture any of the other characters as being any actor in particular, as I was reading the Trilogy, with one exception: for some reason, I saw Jan Bublanski as the American character actor Jerry Adler, as he appeared some years ago; he's in his 80s now, and much too old for the part, unfortunately.
