Outstanding story telling

I haven't immersed myself in such a good story for many years. Now that I've just finished 'The Girl who Kicked the Hornets Nest' I'm at a loss! This last book without a doubt was the best of three (in my opinion of course) and it kept me reading for 4 hours last night to finish it - no novel has ever done that for me. So, I read a lot of rubbish on this discussion board that the stories are popular simply because the author died tragically, and that books are badly written / edited. People are entitled to their opinion of course but I'd suggest that this type of novel is simply not for them, or that they have some other agenda, or just no imagination!! This is some of the best suspense novel writing I have come across for years. Detailed, intricate, twists and turns, superb characters, even humorous on occasion, sex... and written eloquently in my view. Great shame that there won't be any more, and my heartfelt sympathies lie with Eva Gabrielsson.

What, oh what am I to do now??? I have just finished the 3rd in the Millennium Trilogy - I am bereft. I can honestly say that these books are the best I have ever read. In my opinion, The Girl Who Played With Fire was the most outstanding of a truly magnificent trio. I cant recommend them highly enough, I had to make myself stop reading and go to sleep at night, the stories are compelling and the plots are so involved and intricate. I LOVED THEM!!! I would urge everyone to read, read, read - Steig was a genius, how tragic that there will be no more.

I started reading these books because a friend raved on and on about it, so i started reading. I tried hard at the start to understand who was who and that I think got me hooked. The whole serious kept you thinking all the time and somehow combined the stories together really well.

I would have to say the Millennium trilogy is THE BEST books i have ever read. It kept you thinking all the time and keep you wondering what was going to happen next. What a shame Steig isn't around to see his books release and become the most read books out in 2008.

I agree with you all. THE BEST BOOKS I have ever read. Finished them three in 1,5 month (and I do work!) and am having the second round now. You should certainly do it since there are so many little details which one cannot get from the beginning. Oh it's so good.

I totally agree with every word Janet Tyson said! These were the best books I've ever read, I couldn't put them down. My favourite was The Girl who Played with Fire, I have never had such an adrenaline rush reading a book as I did while reading the scenes at Zala's farm.

Finished the Hornets Nest yesterday and am now at a total loss, I NEED more!!!

I second that emotion! I tried so hard to get a friend to read it with me but she wouldn't do it, now I'm trying to get other friends on board so we can have discussions. I agree that it is a shame that Steig Larsson will never have known what an addictive story he started, how much people are enjoying his writting, and worse, that we, his fans will never get to read another of his fantastic mysteries.

FINALLY, I've found others who agree that PWF is the best! In the last year I've read all 3, 3 times and books 2 & 4, 4 times. I love the entire trilogy and they are the best novels I've ever read but I still like PWF the best, where we learn so much about Lisbeth; why she has an 'attitude'. All 3 movies are terrific, too-the last 2 being the best and really just one LONG movie. Yeah NOOMI! She IS Lisbeth, but will watch the US versions because I'm having Larsson withdrawal after a year of reading and watching the books and movies. Would like to see the US take on the books. TOTALLY agree with Janet Tyson and Michelle Kennard.

Stieg was on his way to having a billion dollar series. . . the only bad thing about "The Girl who kicked the Hornet's Nest" is it is the last final polished product from Larsson.

He leaves you eagerly wanting to know what becomes of Lisbeth's newly formed life after Zalachenko and Niedermann and will Mikael and his new "friend" Monica will have the fate of his previous short lived relationships.

You celebrated with Salander in the courtroom as Mikael's sister, Annika annihilated Dr. Teleborian in cross examination.

Forces moved and align to finally set Lisbeth Salander free!!!

Truly awesome when you look at it from a writer's point of view. He managed to do what many authors dream of.

I have never read better, and "once is not enough". Have read all twice, and have seen the movies likewise, and know in a month or two, will pull them all up again on my Kindle and try to pick up even more excitement (followed by the films again, of course).

I have read all three books THREE times this year and enjoyed them just as much, if not more, each time.With the lack of any more books in the series do I follow them with the le Carre Smiley books or re-read the Harry Potter books? Difficult decision!

I am as excited as all of you about these books. I read each book in two days (on the weekends) because I couldn't put them down. They are addictive!

I think as one of you wrote they keep you thinking: about what would happen next, politics, Sweden, etc. I will start my second reading of each book next weekend.
