I loved the book, but there were so many implausibles. How can two people, Gottfried and Martin, hide their perversions from everyone but their victims. Impossible. Martin was able to populate his torture chamber and dispose of the bodies, victim after victim, year after year, and no one on the compound saw or heard or suspected anything. And, how did Henrik NOT figure out that Harriett was alive. From his description of "vanishing without a trace," and a flower on his birthday EVERY year, I figured out she was alive. And, Harriet. Meek, week under her father/brothers spell, but strong, independent and whole on her own...I still loved the book and am starting the second one, but..
