I am just finishing Millenium III. The series is one of the best I have read for a long, long time.

The entire stories-of his books, obviously intertwined with his life- are a fascinating puzzle. Love it all.

Mary Ellen needs to read her Bible and leave the rest of us alone. What a great book by a great author. I am devastated that we wil never again read something from him.

I agree. This trilogy is among the best books I have ever read. I, too, am very sad there will be no more books from Mr. Larsson. If Mary Ellen cannot be bothered to research the books she purchases for her son before she actually buys them, if that is truly an issue, then I would say that her son is in need of a parent with a brain, let alone a moral compass.
I am just curious as to whether she read the book AFTER her son! LOL! If so, at least her son has had the good luck to be exposed to some amazing storytelling.

After picking up The Girl who Played with Fire with "National Bestseller" written all over it, I now realize why our nation is such a mess. It is such a filthy book. It was beginning to get interesting when Larsson veered into the graphic bedroom encounters. Ugh..... I had to stop reading it; it looked like the whole book would be riddled with them. If so many people in the USA (and the world?!!) think the book is marvelous, then indeed our moral compass is completely out of whack.
I'm especially sad that I wasted a perfectly good gift certificate from my son to purchase the revolting thing.. I've thrown it into the trash can so I won't be contributing to Mr. Larsson's smut following.

Somebody said that Mary Ellen should read the Bible. I think she has read a lot to much of the Bible during her life.... I am very sorry for her, but I think that she should let her son chose what he want to read and be a little more realistic. Mary Ellen, you do not live in the hipocritical 19 century any more. Wake up, this is the 21st century. The book you throw in the trash can describe exactly the world today. If you do not accept it go live in the woods and stop bothering the rest of us.

Mary Ellen, you should have read the book. I must admit I havent, but I have seen the Millenium DVD Trilogy, and the movies are excellent. Admittedly there are violent bedroom scenes, and also a lesbian love scene which I didint much care to see, but these were essential in the teeling of the movie. Without those scenes there couldnt be a story as they were an essential part.
I am a Christian, and I do read the Bible, but I also read the newspapers and watch the news, and what you see on the news is typical of what was in these stories. This is typical of the world we live in.

They are great books but Mary Ellen deserves her opinion.

Mary Ellen is a good example of why the US is so disliked by other nations.

No offense Malcolm. As an American I loved the books and not really concerned about your opinion of my country. Thsi appears to be a blog about a book and not a politocal blog but since you started it. I do find it curious how many people appear to say things such as you but fail to remember how much blood was shed by this so called hateful country. Not sure why you have such a low regard for a country that saved a number of Euro countries from being called German today. We are by no means perfect but I would say that maybe reading a few history books might serve you well since the UK has had its own issues over the years.

Peace and Love for all. We cannot force others to think like us. We are thankful for all the different opinions because we can rethink our beliefs. I love the books!

At first I believed that the sex in the book was completely unnecessary; it is a great story with out it. After a time I came to realize that Larsson was giving us a definitive definition of what constitutes a healthy gratifying sexual exchange between two consenting adults, and what is not healthy. Sexual abuse isn't really about sex; it is about power. Those who pursue this kind of relationship with prostitues, or creating victims of their own children or the children in their lives often confuse their need for domination and control with their sexual desires. I believe this book may profoundly effect how we see sexuality and it's various healthy interpretations. It may remove the confusion, or start a dialogue about how individuals can live and explore their sexual lives without the stigma of perversion. Further, it may help us challenge those who are trully perverse - those who seek to destroy other humanbeings for pleasure.
